Word and Sacrament Ministry

Word and Sacrament ministry is at the center of Good Shepherd’s worship life. Through the hearing and proclaiming of God’s Word, and through the administration of the Holy Sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper, God the Holy Spirit reaches hearts and lives with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Worship is a “conversation” between God and His people:  God speaks His gracious mercy to us in Word and Sacrament, and we respond to Him in prayer and praise. In Word and Sacrament ministry, disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ are made, renewed, and kept.

Variety of Worship Styles

Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – The Traditional Service in the Sanctuary

Traditional hymns sung and spoken liturgies, organ-led with occasional choir participation.

Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary

Traditional hymns sung and spoken liturgies, organ-led with occasional choir participation.

Sunday, 10:45 a.m. – Contemporary Worship in the Ministry Activities Center (MAC)

Our contemporary service in the Ministry Activities Center utilizes praise singers and praise band. Though the music is contemporary, the central parts of Lutheran worship are maintained including confession and absolution, the creeds, lectionary readings, sermon, prayers, and the Sacraments.

Wednesday Evening Worship,  7:00 p.m. – This is a traditional service held each Wednesday evening in the Sanctuary.  We use hymns out of the LSB.    This shortened form of the previous Sunday’s service is ideal for those who work on the weekends or for those who miss the previous Sunday worship service.

The Lord’s Supper

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper in all three Sunday services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month as well as the Wednesday following the 2nd and 4th Sundays.

This Holy Sacrament of our Lord is for confirmed Lutherans and other adult baptized Christians who join us in the Lutheran confessional belief that Christ offers His body and blood under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sins and renewal in the Christian life.

Children’s Messages

On non-Communion Sundays, children’s messages are provided in each service.

Advent and Lent Vespers Services

On Wednesday evenings in the seasons of Advent and Lent, we offer vespers services in the Sanctuary starting at 7:00 pm.
